This print was made directly from a vintage label that I have in my collection. I made a photo silk screen for the black parts of the print. The yellow, red and blue stencils were made directly on the screen.
I felt that I have been neglecting Hamburg because of my involvement with Roycroft. I have enjoyed the original label that has hung in my kitchen for 20 years and decided to share it by making this print.

The Hamburg Canning Company was organized in 1881. It did a tremendous business during its heydays. It was located on the north side of Evans St. at the Erie RR tracks. George M. Pierce was president and Thomas L. Bunting secretary and treasurer. By 1883 they employed 250 hands and shipped out two carloads of produce every week. They stayed in business until 1937.
