Coffee, Tea and Topics in the Gardener’s Cottage at the
Darwin Martin House Complex

april 20 – Not long after the Martin family moved into their house,
they added the vibrant colors and rich patterns of Oriental rugs to their
Wright designed interior.
Today we celebrate rugs with specialists from Knot by Knot on Hertel Avenue.
Their representatives will unravel the beauty, meaning and mystery of Oriental
rugs for you.
may 4 – Frank Lloyd Wright’s fascination with Japan led him to travel
there in 1905. Thereafter he extolled the beauty of Japanese decorative arts.
The meditative exercise of Ikebana, the Japanese art of floral arranging,will
be demonstrated by
Takako Miichi who will prepare three different arrangements according to
Ikebana principles.
june 8 – When the Martin House was new, so too was the Arts and Crafts
Movement at the Roycroft campus started in East Aurora
by Darwin Martin’s mentor, Elbert Hubbard. Using age-old methods, Roycroft
Artisan, Dorothy Markert will demonstrate Arts & Crafts-style printmaking.
You will have a hand in finishing a screen print that Dorothy will prepare
ahead of time - and you will be able to take your print home.

WNYBAC-1 Portfolio
One of my prints "The First Roycroft Print Shop" is included in the first
publication from the Western New York Book Arts Collaborative. This portfolio
consists of a suite of 21 prints, broadsides and assemblages from 21 artists,
printers and poets on the theme: Western New York and the Book Arts. Each
piece is loosely enclosed in a hardbound clamshell case with a booklet on the
prints and the artists.
