"The Roycroft Campus:
as if Elbert Hubbard and the Roycrofters never left"

Starting to work on Sat. am, Nov.4, 2006 in the Copper Shop Gallery

2008 Fall Screen Printing Class at the Copper Shop – Nov. 7, 8 & 9. In the new Roycroft Campus Corporation Gallery, exhibit space and classroom directly across from the Roycroft Inn.

Roycroft Renaissance Master Artisan Dorothy Markert is offering a two day plus class in her own technique of screen printing. The images will be painted directly on the screens and each color will be printed separately, one on top of the other to build up to the finished print. This method is in keeping with the Roycroft philosophy of hand craft. The screen printing supplies are all water based and non toxic.

All materials will be provided so that each student can create and take home an edition of 12 of their own original prints as well as Dorothy’s complete manual and a screen complete with backing board and hinges that they can use for future work. She will correspond with registered students so that they can work up their designs before the class. She will have books of copyright designs that they can use in class.

The history and development of screen printing will be discussed; she will have a collection of books on the subject for the students to see. Arts and Crafts design will be stressed.

Screen printing, the most direct and painterly of the printing mediums is also the latest to attain the status of an art form. This technique lends itself to working at home, without the large investment necessary in other printmaking processes.

The class will begin on Friday night, Nov 7, 2008, 7-9 PM with a cocktail hour/ icebreaker/demonstration and continue on Saturday and Sunday, Nov 8 & 9, 10 AM – 5 PM (with a lunch break) both days. Saturday lunch and Sunday brunch will be at the Roycroft Inn.
